Everyone should watch the Grammy's because "Love" is performing so my friends are going!  Yea!  Everyone is very excited.  And tired.  I hope we win!

12:49 pm - marriage
Hey I'm married now!  There is really nothing different about being married other than my last name and an added ring on my finger.  The best part about getting married: I got to see Krista, Lib and Jimmy!  I mean it's great that Mike and I got married and I'm so happy to be his wife and I love him bunches and bunches, but I really  missed my friends and seeing them was really really great.  I think we should never go that long without seeing each other again!  Somehow we need to make a point to see each other every year.

In other news there have already been requests for grand-kids and nieces or nephews...yeah...that's not happening for a while.

9:18 am - Something interesting
Jimmy asked for something interesting, so here you go:  I have something interesting to report!!!  There must be something going on for "Spamalot: The Las Vegas Spectacular" (a very good show, btw) this weekend or last weekend because several Monty Python people have come to see "Love" lately.  John Cleese was there, but he had dinner reservations and did not come back stage.  Eric Idle came backstage.  Anna (a girl I work with) and I were heading on our break after taking the group photo with Eric Idle.  As we were leaving the theatre to walk through the "backstage" area of the casino we noticed that Eric's group was right behind us.  The artistic director for the show introduced us as a couple of people who run the show (we're both rather new, I'm sure he had no clue what we do, but we were both wearing black, so that means we work backstage on something).  Anna and I hung back to let the group pass and Eric hung back a little to walk with us.  We passed the snazzy dealer's lounge and Anna explained that it is so nice because they are union.  Eric said that they might have the nice lounge, but that we were cooler because we work in show business.  Yea!  Eric Idle thinks I'm cool!!!

But wait, there's more!  Terry Gilliam came to the show a couple of nights ago.  I was finishing up laundry so I was late getting in there, but Anna and I went anyway to see what was going on.  We got in there just as he was starting to leave.  As he walked past us he put his hand on my shoulder and said "ah, here are the people who really make the show."  Yea for techies!

6:45 pm - Love
Hello!  I just wanted to post and let everyone know I'm still alive.  I'm currently the craft technician at The Beatle's Love by Cirque du Soleil.  Yesterday was my first day at Love and so far I'm really liking it.  It is going to be a ton of hard work and there is a lot of catching up I have to do, but once I get everything to a manageable state it should be pretty good.  If you are ever in Vegas let me know and I will try to get you tickets.

In other news Mike and I have finally set a date for our wedding (a real one that we're going to stick to this time).  We're getting married on October 10, 2007.

Not much else to update (that and I'm exhausted!).  Hopefully I will be better about updating once in a while, but we will see.

Things that are strange:
-Looking through a bridal magazine and seeing four of the girls you work with staring back at you in the section about Las Vegas.
-Seeing a friend's photo on a tee shirt, coffee mug, deck of playing cards, postcard, etc.
-Knowing that I work for the best show in Vegas (voted so for like 8 years running)

Things are going really well.  I am now officially employed by Cirque du Soleil (not an intern anymore!!!)!!!  I now make more money than my mom, which somehow makes me feel more adult than anything else.

So, if I have a wedding in Vegas in early December 2007 will anyone be able to make it?

4:39 pm - two for one!
Wow a second update in one day...it's amazing!

Anyway I just had to recommend a book to everyone: The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.  B&N is doing some new recommended reading thing and this was the book they recommended.  It was really good.  I haven't read a book that draws me in so well in a while.  It is compared to Jane Eyre (which is why I chose to get it) and it is just such a great book.  Go read the review at B&N (since my computer won't let me do links today for some reason here is the link: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/gateway/recommended.asp?z=y&cds2Pid=9481).  So yeah...good book...go read it...

3:50 pm - Wow she's still alive!

Yeah...it's been a little while since I last updated.  Since then I have moved to fabulous Las Vegas, NV.  I have a lovely apartment that even has a fireplace...strange that apartments in the desert would have fireplaces, but now I have a small mantle to put things on.  It will be nice when we can afford to get dressers and such and can finally unpack all of the tubs in the bedroom.  We have a really nice couch and love seat and one of the sleep number beds, so we do have some furniture.  And the couch is really comfortable so if anyone wants to come for a visit it makes a nice bed.

I love my internship; the people are all so nice!  My second week there I already had everyone telling me that they want to keep me.  I really hope a job will open up there when my internship is done because I love the people and I really like working for Cirque.   The costume shop is amazing.  It's nice working at a place where they can basically get anything they want for the shop.  One dress in the show cost more to make than the entire budget for many of the shows I have worked on in the past.  It has gold foiling on it that has been hand applied in a brocade pattern and it gets a little wet around the hem so some of the velvet is rotting (a fact that broke my heart to look at...such a beautiful dress!  However, if it ever gets too bad they will simply throw it to the shredder and get a new one, they shred costumes once they have been deemed unwearable).

Mike and I got to see "O" from the light booth.  It was amazing.  I couldn't believe how talented the people I work with are!  Because we were watching the show from so high up we could see the divers doing some of the scene changes which was neat.  I also got to see Delirium when it was here for a two day stop on its tour.  As part of my internship I will eventually get to see all five of the resident shows in Vegas.  I'm really excited to see them all, but especially Love (the Beatles one)!

Mike is in the process of finding a job.  He had an interview this morning and we are hoping things will go well with that.  I'm sure something will come along soon.

It is absolutely beautiful out here.  I am happier living here than anywhere else I've lived before.  The weather is perfect, even when it's 115 degrees out it really doesn't feel that hot.  There is usually a nice breeze and the lack of humidity makes everything better.

Working at the Bellaigo is nice.  I love getting to see the fountains go off most evenings.  Sometime next week (I think) they are filming a scene or something for Ocean's 13 in the lobby.  I think I'm going to have to go check it out.  Who knows maybe I will get to see Gorge Clooney or Brad Pitt.

So basically to sum all of this up, yes I am alive and I am happier than I have been in a while.  The only thing that could make all of this better is if Mike got one of the many jobs he has applied for.

I want to set a date for my wedding.  I want to set a date and keep that date so I can send little cards to people telling them to save that date on their calender to make sure they can be there.  I would like to know where the wedding is going to be held, but for now I would just be really happy with a concrete date.

1:05 am - Headed to Vegas!
I got the internship with Cirque du Soleil!  I will be the costume intern for O.  Yea!  I start September 1, so I will be moving to Vegas sometime between August 6 (when I'm done here) and then.  I am very excited about the whole thing.  I can't wait to learn all of the techniques they have for creating costumes and makeup that work for an underwater show!!!

11:33 pm - Ok, I'll do it too

I got tagged by [info]fossemoves:

Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like most, then pick ten people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.

1.  The smell just before it rains.
2.  A kind smile from a stranger.
3.  Being told that I am loved and knowing that it is true.
4.  Being held in Mike's arms.
5.  Thunderstorms.
6.  Chocolate.
7.  Taking a wrong turn and finding places I never knew existed.
8.  Earl Gray Tea.
9.  A cool breeze on a warm day.
10.  Sleeping in until noon on rare occasions.

I'm not going to pick ten people.  Whoever wants to can be tagged.

1:34 am - Shopping!
Today was my first day off since I've been in OH. A big group of us went to Easton today. This is a huge outdoor mall in Columbus, OH. I spent lots of money buying myself lots of fun things. I like shopping. I did find a few deals and some of the stuff I got was things I needed. However, the Build a Bear and the three Eddie Izzard DVDs were just because I wanted them.
I have another day off tomorrow. I'm going to see one of my aunts. I'm meeting her in Columbus for a late lunch.
Monday we start working on Arsenic!

10:25 pm - life in Ohio
The costume shop here doesn't have air conditioning. It is really, really hot. Mattress opens tomorrow, so I have been busy working on that. I'm pretty tired since we have not had a day off yet, but we are getting this weekend off and I am going shopping! Fortunately the people here are all really nice, so that's good. I need to actually hang out with people more often, but when I get home I'm either too tired or working on the designs for my show or both. I went to X-men with a group of people and that was fun. I just feel like sometimes I need to be more social.
I also need to start eating better and find some time to exercise. I really want to get out of plus sizes before I go wedding dress shopping (not having to shop in plus sizes means I'll be able to find a bigger variety of dresses with cheaper prices). I've been eating out just about every meal and that is not good. I look in the mirror and hate my body. Mike of course is wonderful and tells me that I am beautiful and that I don't need to worry about loosing weight because I'm perfect the way I am. I just feel like I would be healthier and happier if I lost some weight. I need to create a diet plan and stick to it. Well really more of a eat healthy and exercise plan than a diet plan, but I still need to stick to it.

12:08 am - it's really over...
Well, tonight was the last episode of Alias. After five years of loving this wonderful show it is now over. I will miss it, but at least the final episode was a good one.

In other totally unrelated news, Meijer sells sex toys. Just thought you should know.

6:39 pm - back to dorm life
Well I'm living in a dorm at Denison University in Newark, OH for the summer. I had to go buy shower shoes and a shower basket. I'm pretty much moved in now. Not a whole lot going on yet. The thesis is done, I just need the final approval from my advisor before I print it up and send it off. yeah...not much to say because I'm kind of tired. I'll update later.

1:45 pm - A Summer In Ohio
Looks like I'll be in Ohio for the summer. I was offered a position as the assistant costume designer at Weathervane Playhouse in Newark, OH. I get to design costumes for two of their shows, work in the costume shop, and assist the main costume designer with his or her designs. I'm going to be designing costumes for Arsenic and Old Lace and Don't Dress for Dinner. The artistic director says that he will call this job an internship since I need one in order to be able to get my degree. I just have to check with my advisor to make sure it will count for my internship and then I can accept it.

The only bad thing about this is that I need to tell them Monday if I can take the job or not. Here's the bad part: I have an interview on Thursday with Cirque Du Soleil for their internship. I made it past the first cut, they liked my essay and resume, but there is no guarantee that I will get the internship. Also, the job in Ohio provides housing and I would get $200 a week. At Cirque, you have to provide your own housing and I don't think they pay that much for the internship. Working at Cirque would be such a fantastic experience, but I feel like right now I need to accept the other one and wait on Cirque. They have a fall internship, so maybe I can do that one instead.

The other bad thing is I don't know when I will be able to see Mike, but that was going to happen no matter where I went. Sometimes I wonder why I didn't pick a career where I would be able to just stay in one place for a while. Maybe eventually I can teach and do this, but I don't know when I will be able to do that. I've applied for a couple of teaching positions for next year, but so far I haven't heard anything.

So yeah, that is what has been going on with me. Well, that and also I PASSED COMPS!!!!! I just have a few final exams to make it through, some minor editing to do to my thesis before I defend it and then I'm done!

11:06 pm - took this from Jimmy
Go to Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.com) and look up your birthday (excluding the year). List three neat facts, two births and one death in your journal.

April 20th

3 events:
1912 - Opening day for baseball stadiums Tiger Stadium in Detroit, Michigan, and Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. (this one is only here because it made me think of Will)
1972 - Apollo 16 lands on the Moon.
1979 - President Jimmy Carter is attacked by a Swamp Rabbit while on vacation in Plains, Georgia.

2 births:
1808 - Emperor Napoleon III of France (d. 1873)
1889 - Adolf Hitler, Austrian-born German dictator (d. 1945)

1 death:
1765 - Abigail Williams, American accuser in the Salem witch trials (b. 1674)

Well, I have a ton of homework I need to be doing and I've told myself I'm not allowed to go to sleep tonight until I'm done editing my thesis, so of course it is time to update!

I didn't get the internship I wanted in Kalamazoo. I got a letter in the mail telling me that the position had been filled. I was really disappointed because that is the one I was hoping for. Now I find myself worrying that I won't be able to find an internship. I have to do at least a two month internship before I get my degree and if I can't even get an internship then will I be able to get a job? The idea of actually going out into the world and finding a job is scary. I've been in school all of my life, so this will be a big change. I applied to several places and had a bunch of interviews at USITT, but so far I haven't heard anything from anyone.

Other than freaking out about not finding an internship or job I'm doing ok...well I'm freaking out about comps too, but that's to be expected.

I think one of the things I was most disappointed about not getting the internship in Kalamazoo is the fact that if I had gotten that one we would have had the wedding in MI. Now who knows where we will have it. I don't know where I'm going to be this time next year, so it's both exciting and scary. I kind of want to start setting some plans for the wedding (like the date, where it will be, and that type of thing), but I can't do that without knowing where I will be. *sigh*

I really just want to elope and marry Mike right now. But at the same time I want the fairytale wedding. I'm worried that if we were to just elope I would regret not having the big wedding. However, I also don't want to spend a ton of money on a wedding. We're getting married because we love each other, why spend tons of money on a wedding when instead we could save that money to buy a house? Now that I type it out that actually doesn't sound too bad...something to think about anyway.

So how is everyone else out there doing? Does anyone actually still read this since I never update?

Back to the thesis...

current mood: thoughtful
